The topic was Kettlebell Training for BJJ but we cover much more than just kettlebells and I’m glad we did. Although I love kettlebells and use them very often with my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu players, it’s important to understand the complete strength and conditioning picture when discussing conditioning for BJJ.

Steve Maxwell was my first BJJ coach. This was many years ago in Philadelphia at Maxercise located at 707 Chestnut Street.
Some of my best BJJ memories are from those days. Getting beat up by Noah Spear and the Migliarese brothers. Getting foot-locked repeatedly by Anray (sp) to the point of near breakage simply because I swept him.
Suffering in the Philly humidity on the 3rd floor… wondering what the hell I was doing training in a gi.

Dewey is an awesome guy and one of the most well-rounded and humble people I know. He’s a vegan and he’s a pitbull lover. How much cooler can you get?
