Animal movements are very popular conditioning drills for BJJ or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve posted many BJJ workouts here that focus on animal movements.
You can use use these movements as a warm-up like many BJJ players do within their academy. Or you can easily take them outside which may offer you more space and flexibility.
A friend of mine Mike Fitch just released a new program based on flows that he’s developed around some classic as well as new animal-based movements.
“No grip, no fulcrum. No fulcrum, no leverage. No leverage, no Jiu-Jitsu. Develop a strong, vise-like grip and use it — lay HEAVY HANDS on your opponent!” -Mario Roberto
During my kettlebell training workshops people always ask me… “What is the difference between a kettlebell and a dumbbell?
It all comes down to levers, leverage, centers of gravity and all that boring stuff we had to sit through in biomechanics class.
I could write about it in detail here but you’ll probably understand it a bit more through video…and it would take me forever to type out.
“…A BJJ Workout Video by Noah Spear BJJ Blackbelt and CBJJ World Champion…”
We’re back with Noah’s bodyweight or animal exercises for BJJ training. This animal exercises is one of my favorite and Noah uses it during his BJJ warm-ups and as you’ll see, there’s a great break-fall component to this drill as well.
This next video is just a little crazy and I was psyched when Noah showed it to me. You’ll see how easy it is to make your training specific to BJJ and Judo.
” A BJJ Workout Video by Noah Spear and Jason C. Brown”
Noah Spear, BJJ Blackbelt and CBJJ World Champion is a master of body weight exercises for improving BJJ. Noah uses many of these body weight or animal movements for his BJJ specific warm-ups prior to class and as a way of Free Style BJJ Conditioning.
If you remember from this other Free Style BJJ Conditioning video that I posted last week. Noah really just plays with his movements, never really focusing on sets, reps or an ultimate outcome other than his movement itself.
