One of the biggest issues BJJ players face when starting or maintaining strength and conditioning program is momentum. Building and maintaining momentum!
Through personal face-to-face discussions and numerous online resources, I have surveyed well over 2000 BJJ players…both competitive and recreational and the issues we face are all similar…too little time, busy schedules, other obligations, information overload and paralysis by analysis.
Given that information I’ve compiled my “Top 10 Ten Reasons Why You Should K.E.T.T.L.E.B.E.L.L. Train.” Below is a brief overview of each reason…more details will follow later within the lesson.
Zach Even-Esh has been involved with wrestling and combat sports for decades. He now trains wrestlers and other combat athletes fulltime in his gym in Edison New Jersey, he Underground Strength Gym.
The wrestlers that Zach has created are beasts and some of the best conditioned combat athletes that I’ve ever seen.
His record in creating champions is long and well established. Here’s a little of what we covered;
How can busy people fit training into their lifestyles?
“I’ve been doing BJJ for about 4 years and being only 105 pound and 5 feet
tall I¹m continually over powered by the boys. I¹ve started conditioning
and it has helped tremendously. I can only condition one day a week but it
lasts about 70 minutes. Part of the conditioning incorporates 2 Kettlebell
movements but I want to do more without over doing it.
Right now I train Monday through Thursday doing dead lifts Mondays and
Wednesdays and pushup Tuesdays and Thursday sand abs work all four days as
well as 45 minutes on a stationary bike. On Fridays is the conditioning
only, Saturday is open matt only and Sunday I rest.
